Description:
The Public Affairs Coordinator at Jefferson County Public Health will support the Health Communications Team in maximizing communication between departments, the public, the media and outside agencies/partners.
Work involves developing and implementing written and verbal communications to increase the public's knowledge of public health information and engagement with public health initiatives and programs designed to improve health, prevent injury and disease and promote policy/systems change and health equity.
The position is in the Health Communications office and will report to the Public Affairs Manager.

Given the nature of this position, you may need to work the occasional evenings or weekends.
Hiring Range:
$63,000 - $70,000 USD Annually Compensation will be determined based on education, experience and skills.

Essential Duties:
Responsible for communication between various departments, the public, the media and other outside agencies.
This includes researching and writing articles, news releases, talking points, op-eds, blog posts and more.
Conduct media monitoring, planning and interview facilitation.
Conduct outreach to and build relationships both internally with employees and externally with stakeholders and the public to enhance communications.
This includes news media organizations and reporters for TV, radio, newspapers, bloggers and other sources.
Review, edit and provide feedback to communications materials developed by other JCPH workforce members/programs.
Support emergency preparedness rapid response, requiring occasional evening or weekend work.
Support development of marketing materials, messaging and content for websites, e-newsletters, social media and more.
Support internal communications, including developing events, messages and materials directed toward the Jefferson County Public Health workforce.
Assist with designing, creating and producing high-quality public information and marketing materials (e.
g.
, flyers, posters, social media and web graphics and displays) and other publications using the Adobe Creative Cloud and/or other professional design software.
Assist with maintaining Jefferson County Public Health's website and intranet, including assisting with content development, ensuring ADA accessibility compliance, posting regular updates using the content management system, preparing analytics and evaluation reports and other day-to-day website maintenance needs.
Take photographs at events and meetings, as needed.
Coordinate special events with internal staff and the community.
Assist with general communications administrative tasks, as needed.
Qualifications:

Minimal
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, web/graphic design, English, journalism, or similar.
A minimum of 1 year of experience in a communications-related role.
Or an equivalent combination of education & experience.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Professional experience writing public relations materials, such as news releases, talking points, reports, blog articles, etc.
Prior experience working with news media organizations, including interview facilitation, media monitoring and planning.
A strong emphasis on clear, concise and plain language writing, in addition to strong proofreading and editing skills.
Experience delivering consistent earned media placements.
Experience/familiarity with AP Style writing.
Experience with crisis communications and responsiveness to emergent media priorities and needs.
Experience in training others on being a spokesperson.
Experience with risk communication and a willingness to increase that knowledge.
Expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign and Photoshop.
