$52,000 - $74,000) who will help lead the City's strategic communications and marketing efforts.
The individual will represent the City to citizens, outside agencies and partners.
The Public Information Officer is a member of the City's Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Mayor.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in a comparable or larger complex organization, a deep understanding of marketing strategies and opportunities, as well as long range planning for the city, and is experienced in communications with public entities or higher education.
The Public Information Officer is primarily responsible for communicating with the public and the press through computerized media, this includes posting stories, videos, still pictures, creating newsletters, press releases on the City's website, Facebook page, Twitter account, LinkedIn, local area press websites and other media outlets.
This position is also responsible for communications and marketing work, creating and proofing content for City Departments, assisting with the creation of quarterly internal and external newsletters, information, project instructions and training.
This position works with Community Relations on city events and issues.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
(All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents.
) Must be able to make design improvements to the City of Lakewood's website to improve navigability as well as develop and implement improvements to website design and/or content.
Development of strategic communication plan in conjunction with the Mayor and city leadership.
Create, coordinate and/or assist Department Heads with press releases, training materials and other creative endeavors.
Utilize skills to increase communications between safety forces and the public at times of need for increased public safety.
Develops communications, programs or proofreads other materials in conjunction with department heads for committees, employees and the public.
Develops strong, positive relationships with the local press.
Adds dynamic content, monitors, and makes improvements to City social media sites to reach established annual goals.
Uses and monitors department social media content management systems.
Able to integrate video/photo essays into the City's website and upload approved multimedia content to social media pages, and other media sources as needed.
Will attend assigned public meetings to document and communicate trends and issues to City Administration.
Stay aware of, follow and adapt to media trends.
Devises and coordinates photo opportunities and photojournalism.
Pitch story ideas to area/regional/national publications and other related activity required to complete the foregoing services.
Creates and maintains digital photograph library for use in presentations; takes photographs and downloads and modifies information.
Maintains and upgrades professional knowledge, skills, and development by attending seminars and training programs and reading trade and professional journals and publications.
Manages the Public Relations aspect of a potential crisis situation.
Disseminates a variety of information and/or reports to various agencies, residents, divisions, or departments via telephone, mail, email or FAX.
Serves as a liaison and/or member of various committees/teams and collaborates, persuades, and presents reports to others outside own work area to coordinate efforts and maintain cooperative and efficient relations.
Attends meeting and events to develop content for press releases and other communications on behalf of the City.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and
Experience:
Three (3) to five (5) years related experience, in communications or journalism; Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, marketing, mass communications or other related field; Public sector or higher education communication and/or marketing experience (preferred); or Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Licenses and Certifications:
